Saturday or Another Sadder Day?

The Waste o' Shit was hosting another of those wretched pep rallies at some burg in Pennsylvania, when something that sounded like fireworks going off caused a brief panic, because the Secret Service reacted as though a sniper was firing at Donny Dookie Bird. I won't be surprised if this event turns out to be as phony as Dookie Bird's hairstyle, something staged to add a little excitement to the permanent W/S reality TV show that can also be repurposed into a neat fundraising scam.

Another of the many thousands of ways Joe is a better man than Dookie Bird: When he attacks the W/S during a campaign speech, everything Joe says about him is completely true. When the W/S attacks Joe at a MAGA pep rally or in an Untrue Antisocial midnight rant, everything he says is a got-dam lie.

Q NOTES No. 1148: Sunday Short Cuts

Stuff that makes decent citizens want to puke? At the top of the list is hearing Texas MAGA Monkeys like Greg Abutt blabbing about thoughts and prayers after another Lone Star Lunatic goes on a shooting spree in a mall or school, adding more dead kids to the state's mass murder YTD body count.

Keith Self (Texas MAGA Monkey) in a CNN interview re: questioning prayer as shooting prevention method: "Well, those are people that don't believe in an almighty God who is absolutely in control of our lives. I'm a Christian. I believe that he is."

The easiest cop out in the world is to simply shrug and say something was God's plan for (their) lives, and accept it like all good christians (sic) should. Letting god (sic) handle problems is the MAGA Monkey comfort zone because he has Absolute Control.

Added 7:28 PM: Greg Abutt was a worthless political hack as Texas AG, and he's even worse as a MAGA Monkey governor.

Q NOTES # 616: Short Cuts 76

There are too many mentally defective Trumplicans who actually believe the most important things in life are (a) owning guns and (b) firing guns. They have a new hero today. He's an 18 year old punk named Rittenhouse who got away with killing two people in Wisconsin, and will soon be the biggest celebrity in Trumplican World next to Troomp himself. He has actually lived what Troomp could only dream about: shooting people in the street without losing a single vote. Even better, no prison sentence.

Today I read several reports on various aspects of a single issue: the uneasiness that leaders of what was the Republican party, and is now the Trumplican party, are experiencing over the self-centered actions Troomp is obsessed with. Troomp is determined to keep the focus on himself and the 2020 election, and intends to replace "disloyal" Trumplicans with others who are devoted to him. Party leaders believe this will result in unelectable lunatics forcing out electable incumbents, a disaster for them in terms of gaining congressional majorities next year. This looks increasingly like a perfect dilemma for Trumplicans, who deserve to suffer punishment for their  refusal to deal with this mental case when the opportunities were right there. If they continue to acquiesce, they lose. If they resist him, they still lose.

Shots Fired

Conservative Republicans and the NRA are always arguing that guns don't kill people. People kill people.

That's true. The guns just make people killing people much, much easier.

There's no longer any such thing as Obamacare. We know it's true because Ass Lube said so on TV.

Even Ass Lube realizes Mike (Turd) Pence is crazier than than your typical right-wing evangelunatic.

Speaking of craziness, Ass Lube requires constant praise from his subordinates to complement the constant praise he bestows upon himself. Even a spoiled pre-schooler can cope without that. It's almost criminal to rationalize his behavior and pretend that Ass Lube is the same as the first forty-four presidents.

Chicken Shit, Part 2

Another Republican coward advocates eliminating interaction with constituents in town hall meetings to prevent citizens from exercising their second amendment right to express dissent against the government with a loaded firearm.

Maybe if they were working openly every day to make life much better for their constituents, they wouldn't need to worry about unhappy voters.

But noooo...

Another stinking pile

Guns

The goddamned gun crazies are out of control these days.

And while I'm on the subject, fuck Joe the Plumber too.

Heroism

There are apparently a few million people who believe George Zimmerman killed a N thug and got away with it. To them, that makes George a fucking hero.

Shootin' up

If you want to see a Texas Republican's head explode, ask him which he loves better, Jesus or his gun collection. The legislature in Texas is mostly made up of Republicans who don't give a shit about government or know much about it, but they love their guns.

This grinning asshole is first-term tea party Rep. Steve Toth of The Woodlands. His claim to fame is that he introduced a bill in the current session which was passed overwhelmingly by voice vote. Steve's measure "would nullify within state borders any federal laws banning assault weapons or high-capacity magazines, or expansion of background checks for firearms owners..." according to an AP report by Will Weissert.

Then we have this fucking waste of space, Rep. Brandon Creighton of Conroe, who "sponsored a bill to punish by up to a year in jail and a 4,000 dollar fine police officers or government officials who try to enforce federal firearms limits in Texas." That masterpiece of legislative brilliance also passed by voice vote.

The good news is that while House Republicans are entertaining themselves with circle jerks, they aren't doing anything that would actually make life worse for people like me.

Bang Bang Bang

The NRA says guns don't kill people, people kill people. It would be equally accurate to say people with guns can kill more people than people without guns can kill. Anyway, the NRA solution to gun violence is more people with more guns, and fewer gun control laws rather than more. That sounds like a plan that should work.

Shoot 'em up

There was a story in the local fishwrap a few weeks ago about the run on firearms inventory at two local dealerships after the latest massacre -- the area gun crazies panicked and bought every weapon in stock. The idea that Obama might use the massacre as an excuse to make it harder to expand their home arsenals was the apparent motivation.

The gun control issue has surfaced again, this time with more popular support than usual, and the NRA lunatics are in a typical frenzy, dragging out all their timeworn Second Amendment arguments for the 100,000th time. Wingnuts always use the intent of the framers of the Constitution to defend their insanity, which is why I found the article at this link so interesting.

High Velocity

For several years I've been mildly fascinated by those .50 caliber rifles used by military snipers. Today, I saw a short video that cranked my interest up a notch. The video was sent as an e-mail attachment by a guy named Joe who was my pal in 6th grade. He sold me a European rabbit when we were boys. I named the rabbit Ozzie, and Ozzie outlived the friendship with Joe.

Anyway, my name is on Joe's contact list of members of our high school graduation class, which is how I happened to get this clip. It runs about 35 seconds in all. As it begins, a marksman is sighting in on an iron target about 100 yards down range. He fires, the round ricochets off the target, hits the ground a few yards in front of the marksman, bounces, and clips the earmuffs he's wearing. All of this occurs in two seconds elapsed time. If the ricochet had deflected a few inches differently, the sniper might've received a head wound from his own shot. I was listening through headphones... in two seconds, I hear the rifle fired, the clang as the round hits metal, the whine as the ricochet comes back uprange, and the pop as it hits the shooter.

Shootouts

The more online reader comments I see, the more convinced I become that many conservative men in this country are living vicariously through George Zimmerman.

Added 11:52 pm, Wednesday, April 11th:

Zimmerman is being charged with second-degree murder. Maybe it wouldn't be so much fun being him after all.

Certitude

There are things about which I'm certain:
  • When losing weight, it's much easier to go from 260 pounds to 190 than it is to go from 175 pounds to 165.
  • Quentin Tarantino will never make a movie better than Pulp Fiction.
  • Of all the Republicans on earth, Rush Limbaugh most deserves to be designated a Waste of Oxygen. Tom DeLay is a lock for second place. Karl Rove is in a tie with numerous others for third.
  • The people in charge of football at TAMU damaged the program beyond repair when they wasted Reggie McNeal's talent at quarterback.
  • The days of TAMU beating Texas in football six consecutive seasons are over and done with.
  • If Rick Perry ends up being the longest-serving governor in the recorded history of Texas, it will be an everlasting blemish on the state and a monument to voter stupidity.
  • I could probably get all the TV watching I need if Turner Classic Movies was the only channel I received.
  • The people who are most obsessed with firearm ownership are the last people who need to be carrying loaded guns around.
  • If everyone who bragged about their dedication to Christian values actually lived their lives as Jesus taught, there would be no Republican Party as it exists today.
  • The worst thing John McCain ever did was select Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008. There is no possible atonement for this misjudgment.
  • Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, and Billy Wilder are three directors who made a lot of movies worth seeing over and over again.
  • I have yet to find a contemporary actor who personifies cool the way Steve McQueen and Paul Newman could on their worst days.
  • I really wish Kurt Vonnegut Jr. could've written more books. Even his lesser works are better than a lot of stuff I've read.

Fringe elements

William Kostric has gotten a little attention on the internet, and I even watched some of the Chris Matthews interview with him. I don't want to slide into drama queen mode here, but this guy came across like Travis Bickle, the character Robert De Niro played in Taxi Driver. The words that keep going through my mind as I try to keep up with stuff that's happening are -- it's just a matter of time.

Then there's stuff like this. I knew things would get insane if Obama was elected, but so far it's been worse than I expected.

Summer walks in Texas

Judging by the amount of water on driveways and sidewalks and in the street, some Texans seem to think you can grow concrete and asphalt using lawn sprinklers.
