Q Notes, Day 130

The election in November may be influenced by the extent to which voters can cast their ballots by mail. The report at electoral-vote.com is encouraging, since many states already have reasonable rules about absentee voting. Of the states that restrict the option to voters meeting certain conditions, only New York is a blue state, and can probably modify its rules before November. That leaves Texas (naturally) as the only large state that will make it hard on its voters. The others are all red state shitholes like Mississippi, Indiana, South Carolina, and West Virginia that are lost causes for Democrats anyway, but might look different if enough (R) voters are blocked by the absentee restrictions.

Speaking of Texas, a new poll reports that 80 percent of Texas voters think face masks should be mandatory. Now, if the (R) assholes who run the state will step up to the plate, there may be hope for this place yet.

Trumpty Dumpty looks phony when he tries to pretend that he made a decision for the benefit of the American people. Actually, he just got his ass kicked again by officials in Florida. He never does the right thing on his own, and he doesn't give a shit about anybody but himself, and maybe Ivanka.

I like the post at Juanita Jean's blog about defunding DHS, especially the observation that Trumpty Dumpty is now the leading cause of death in the U.S. Maybe he'll have a plaque made up for the White House. As for the thugs in Portland, I won't be surprised if (or when) we learn that those "federal officers" are actually right-wing militia members and mercenaries recruited by people like Erik Prince, whose sister is Betsy DeVos. Remember that private army operating in Iraq under the name Blackwater? Why are they trying so hard to remain anonymous?

Update 10:59 AM Friday 24 July, from an AP news report:
The hearing in U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman's court focused on the actions of the more than 100 federal agents responding to protests outside the Portland courthouse. The state's motion asks Mosman to command agents from the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, Federal Protective Service and U.S. Marshals Service to immediately stop detaining protesters without probable cause, to identify themselves and their agency before arresting anyone, and to explain why an arrest is taking place.

Summer walks in Texas

Judging by the amount of water on driveways and sidewalks and in the street, some Texans seem to think you can grow concrete and asphalt using lawn sprinklers.
