Not much has been happening in the news this week, if you disregard the usual wars, epidemics, and economic catastrophes. On the domestic political front, Senator Arlen Specter of PA announced he was switching parties and will apparently join the pivotal Blue Dog Democrat bloc, where he will potentially have some influence.
Among conservatives, the Specter decision has produced reactions that fall more or less along two lines. One group is glad to see him go, since he was entirely too liberal anyway. The other is furious about what they perceive as betrayal, and quaking at the prospect of the Dems with sixty Senate seats.
I came across this article by David Frum that seems to be a reasonable analysis of the ramifications for the Republican party.
