A link at the Dallas Morning News opinion page led me to this article, which appears to be an objective analysis of Sotomayor's decisions in cases involving racial issues. Unfortunately, reality doesn't get nearly as much attention as the crap spilling out of the mouths of social diseases like Limbaugh and Gingrich.

Breaking news: Corndog speaks !

This article in the Sunday Dallas Morning News is an example of something that has become routine: One or more politicians appear on a Sunday morning TV news show to recite the current Democratic or Republican talking points, and the newspapers/wire services treat it as though it were a newsworthy event rather than a staged dog-and-pony show. Making matters worse, the rehearsed opinions are usually solicited from nimrods like John Cornyn whose positions are always completely predictable. I suppose it's just one more in a growing list of reasons why I'm letting my newspaper subscription expire.

Small Blessings

During troubled times in an unsettled world, I try to be thankful for small blessings anywhere I find them. The news out of Austin this morning is one example. This bozo will still be on the board, but he won't be chairman. Thanks go out to the 11 Democrats who united in opposition, proving there may still be hope for Texas yet. I've run out of patience with Texas politicians who use their offices to transform their personal religious beliefs into public policy.

Your legislature in action

Maybe it's something in the water, but Democrats in the state House have developed a little intestinal fortitude and may be able to kill the voter ID bill. There've been a few things this spring that cheered me up, and seeing this piece of misguided bullshit swirling down the crapper would be another one. The proposal was just another chunk of anti-immigrant red meat some Republican a-hole decided to throw out to whip the yahoos into a frenzy, and it worked. I've yet to see any documented evidence of voting fraud in Texas based on impersonation, which leaves rank political posturing as the likely motive behind this legislation.

Six-shooter fantasies

An article in the local fishwrap reports the state Senate is hard at work trying to pass a bill that will allow licensed individuals to carry their concealed handguns into college classrooms and dormitories. Call me dense, but I'm not sure which problem the Lege is trying to solve with this bill. It seems like some Texans are obsessed with their pistols and require the comfort of a loaded weapon to get through the day.

In rough economic times, I'm always seeking ways to save a few dollars. This item in today's Houston Chronicle brightened my day, since I know I can economize by not buying the memoir planned by Trig's mom.
