My opinion, based on personal observation and experience, is this: It's almost always a big mistake to transfer government services and functions to businesses that have a primary goal of maximizing profits. Private sector firms seeking easy money always guarantee that the service can be provided, or the function can be performed, much more effectively at a substantially reduced cost to the government. And Republicans always fall for it.
