Flipping like pancakes

A few months ago, I was seriously concerned that if Obama won the Democratic nomination it would jeopardize any chance the party could increase (or even hold) its majority in congress. My thinking was that he would be a drag on the down-ballot Dem vote. I could marginally tolerate the idea of Top Gun in the White House as long as solid Democratic majorities in the House and Senate existed to slam the brakes on any radical conservative nonsense he tried to pull, e.g., another Clarence Thomas or Scalia on the USSC.

Now, a few months later, the situation has flipped and Republicans are the ones worrying that Ace and The Bunny are anchors that will drag their party down to serious minority status. Based on some national polls I'm reading about, it looks like voters are turning off in droves on Them Two Mavericks. For me, the car smashed into the wall within an hour after Ace named Snowbunny as his running mate; that's how long it took me to read enough about her to know I didn't want her waiting in the hall while Ace tried to drag himself through his four year term.

I still can't get my mind around the concept of a President Barack Obama, but at least I'm not as worried about him costing the party House and Senate votes. I hope I'm not being naive.

Added 10:11 pm Thursday: I watched a movie called "The Good German" tonight and it was a downer. To cheer myself up, I've been checking websites like blogometer and memeorandum to see what's being discussed on the political blogs. One thing is coming through loud and clear: the crowds at Them Two Mavericks campaign rallies are your typical hardcore rightwing lunatic fringe members, and their behavior is starting to resemble that of mobs. Since those losers are all convinced that Obama's election means the end of the world as they know it, maybe they'll go all Jonestown on us and drink the REAL koolaid if he wins. Then they can sleep the long, peaceful sleep and not worry about it.

BTW: An interesting column by conservative David Brooks in the NYT editorial section describing the anti-intellectual trend in the modern Republican Party. Worth reading, especially in the context of what were seeing in the conduct of Them Two Mavericks rally audiences.

Summer walks in Texas

Judging by the amount of water on driveways and sidewalks and in the street, some Texans seem to think you can grow concrete and asphalt using lawn sprinklers.
