For years, Colin Powell has been an admired figure on the national scene. He's an old-school Republican, not one of the new breed of pigs who like to roll around in shit. Since he was respected by people across the board and was an R, the Repubs treated him like a hero. He got prime speaking slots at their political conventions, and was held up as proof that the GOP wasn't a party full of redneck shitbirds and racist yahoos. When the neocons in the first W administration needed a salesman for the Iraq war, Colin was their guy. Cheney looked like an evil, corrupt old man and could never have sold it on his own. The matter was too serious for a dimwit like W to handle by himself. So Powell got the call and like a loyal soldier, gave it his best shot.
Powell didn't reenlist for the second term, and frankly I never got the idea that anyone in the White House cared. As the war continued to go bad, Powell lost a lot of the public brownie points he'd accumulated over the years, but he kept his dignity and soldiered on quietly.
Now that Powell's come out with a public endorsement of Obama accompanied by an articulate summary of reasons he can't support Speedbump and Wasilla Vanilla, the racial animosity among the Repubs is all pouring out, starting with Limbaugh, the stain in America's underwear, and echoed by other conservative commentariat members. All the bigotry and resentment that was bottled up while Powell was carrying water for the GOP is spilling out now and it's truly a sight to behold.

Summer walks in Texas
Judging by the amount of water on driveways and sidewalks and in the street, some Texans seem to think you can grow concrete and asphalt using lawn sprinklers.
